Training in the wind instruments course offers three concentrations: pedagogic, soloist, and orchestral orientations. At the beginning of the course, these concentrations are offered to all students as a group. As the course progresses, depending on individual ability and inclination, personal priorities may be set.
Serious emphasis is placed upon ensemble work in a wide variety of formations, with equally intensive focus upon solo work. Students are given the opportunity to participate in a public concert evening each semester. Orchestral positions are taught and regular auditions organized for orchestral training. The subject of Orchestral Passages in Historical Context is offered for baroque instruments such as transverse flute, baroque oboe, baroque trombone, baroque trumpet, and baroque recorder.
Job-related seminars, including law and contract practice, applications, media practice and interview training are required, completing the range of courses.
