Florian Schüle studied at the conservatories in Munich and Karlsruhe with Hubert Hilser, Otto Kronthaler, and Wolfgang Meyer, graduating with degrees in music education, music performance, and orchestral solo performance. From 2004 to 2025, he was principal clarinetist with the Badische Philharmonie Pforzheim and has since made regular guest appearances with the SWR Symphony Orchestra, the Stuttgart State Opera, the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra, and various orchestras in southern Germany.
A major focus of his musical profile is historical performance practice. In 2009, he was appointed principal clarinetist of the Balthasar Neumann Orchestra by Thomas Hengelbrock. With this ensemble, he performs worldwide in concerts, opera productions, recordings, and tours. As a member of the Balthasar Neumann solo wind ensemble, he has also been giving chamber concerts in Germany and Europe for many years. His long-standing collaboration with Teodor Currentzis and MusicAeterna has also been formative. He received international attention in particular at the 2017 Salzburg Festival, when he took on the solo clarinet part in Mozart's La clemenza di Tito under Currentzis – a performance that was voted “Festival Moment of the Year.”
In addition to his artistic career, Schüle has been a dedicated teacher for many years. He teaches historical clarinets, chamber music, and orchestral work at the music academies in Munich and Freiburg and gives seminars on mental practice. Together with Thomas Hengelbrock, he co-developed the Balthasar Neumann Academy, a training program that provides artistic and organizational support to young musicians and has been funded by the EU since 2024. Regular chamber music and teaching projects have also taken him to Havana since 2014, where he teaches at the Instituto Superior de las Artes.
Since 2018, he has co-directed the international clarinet festival Clarimondo in Staufen with Prof. Kilian Herold.
Florian Schüle has been appointed professor of wind chamber music at the Karlsruhe University of Music for the 2025/26 winter semester.
