In the spring of 1827, Franz Schubert announced the first 12 songs of Winterreise to his friends as a "cycle of gruesome songs". His friends were quite taken aback by the sombre mood of these songs. But Schubert confessed: "I like these songs more than any others, and you will like them too". The performers are soprano Lea Lamparter and Aurelia Georgiou (alumna) on the piano.
