Composition
Students of composition want to go their own way and invent their own music. Those who study composition seek a dialogue with teachers and fellow students, expecting to face criticism. They are open and curious, and interested in the music of others. Those who study composition would like to try out their own ideas and develop their own imaginations.
In intensive cooperation with instrumental students of the University of Music Karlsruhe, students present current work in the context of a Room 205 concert each semester. In addition, collaborations, such as with the Baden State Theater Karlsruhe and Badische Staatskapelle Karlsruhe, International Ensemble Modern Academy, State Art Gallery Karlsruhe, and Southwest Broadcasting, enable student music to be performed.
Master classes and encounters with composers and instrumentalists as well as artists from other fields broaden horizons and offer new perspectives. Project cooperation and exchange agreements with universities in Germany and oversees complement this edifying approach.
The only way to learn to compose is by doing it.
The University of Music Karlsruhe seeks to be a place where the freedom to do so is omnipresent.
