


Germany Scholarship
For the winter semester, the University of Music awards 14 scholarships to particularly talented and capable students enrolled on a Bachelor's or Master's degree programme as part of the Deutschlandstipendium. The Germany Scholarship amounts to €3,600 per year, with half of this amount being paid by private sponsors and the other half by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). The scholarship is paid out in instalments and is usually awarded for one year.
Application procedure
Applications are made annually for the winter semester and exclusively electronically. If you are interested, please send an email with the subject ‘Deutschlandstipendium’ to stipendien@hfm.eu by 15 July 2025 to gain access to the Dropfolder. Please submit complete application documents via the Dropfolder by 20 July 2025.

- Letter of motivation of max. 2 A4 pages
- Curriculum vitae in tabular form
- Certificate of higher education entrance qualification (for foreign certificates, a translation that can be transferred to the German system and converted to the German grading system)
- If applicable, proof of a special qualification that entitles the applicant to study in the respective degree programme at the Karlsruhe University of Music
- If applicable, certificate of enrolment
- for applicants for a Master's place or students in the Master's programme, the certificate of a first university degree and, if applicable, further proof of performance in accordance with the admission and selection regulations for the Master's programme
- Proof of previous academic achievements, if applicable
- If applicable, internship and work references as well as proof of special awards and prizes, other knowledge and other extracurricular or extra-curricular commitments from the last 2 years
- Recommendation from the main subject teacher or the intended teacher
- If applicable, information and proof of special personal or family circumstances
- Informal declaration that no talent- or performance-based scholarship that reaches or exceeds a monthly average of € 30 will be received.
If the application documents are not written in German or English, an officially certified translation into German must be enclosed.
Important note: Application documents that are not submitted on time or in the correct form as well as incomplete application documents will not be considered in the selection procedure.
Selection criteria:
for first-year students
- the average grade of the university entrance qualification with special consideration of the particular qualification that entitles the student to study in the respective degree programme at the Karlsruhe University of Music.
for students already enrolled
- the academic achievements to date or the results of an intermediate examination, for students on a Master's degree programme also the final grade of the previous degree programme.
The overall assessment of the applicant's potential will also be taken into account:
- special successes, awards and prizes, previous employment and internships
- extracurricular or extracurricular commitment such as voluntary work, social, societal, university or political commitment or participation in religious societies, associations or clubs
- special personal or family circumstances such as illnesses and disabilities, caring for own children, especially as a single parent, or close relatives in need of care, working in the family business, working while studying or having a migration background.
Scholarships are awarded on the basis of the Scholarship Programme Act and the HfM Karlsruhe statutes for the awarding of German scholarships.
