Margit Fritz graduated from the University of Karlsruhe (TH), Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, with a degree in literature, history and art history (Magister Artium, with a thesis on the poetics of Arno Schmidt's early work). 
After gaining practical experience in museums such as the Staatliche Kunsthalle Karlsruhe, Städtische Galerie Karlsruhe and Museum Frieder Burda Baden-Baden, she now works as a freelance art historian. At the Berlin University of the Arts, she specialised in curatorial practice and visitor-oriented art education.
She has collaborated on numerous exhibition projects in the field of contemporary art at the Städtische Galerie Karlsruhe, including: Bildschön. Schönheitskult in der aktuellen Kunst (2009) / Der unaufhörliche Aufstieg von Draufgängern und Flaschen with students and graduates of the Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste Karlsruhe (2010) / Kunststoff. Textiles in Art since 1960 (2012). She writes texts on artists, on art from the 19th to the 21st century, and on the subject of art education and the conception of museum educational methods.

In 2013, she authored a ‘Wirk- und Werkbuch’ (workbook) for the Städtische Galerie Karlsruhe (2013, together with Birgit Reich and Melanie Ardjah), a non-fiction book for children aged 5 to 12 about the collection of the Städtische Galerie Karlsruhe (https://d-nb.info/1036193551). As part of the ‘Picture of the Month’ series, she published articles on the collection of the Frieder Burda Museum in Baden-Baden from 2010 to 2014. 
In 2012, she developed and led the project ‘Young People in Dialogue with Contemporary Art.’ An audio guide was created for this project in cooperation with the Karlsruhe University of Music. The project was funded by the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts. On the occasion of the 125th anniversary of the Grötzingen artists' colony, Margit Fritz took on the planning and implementation of the exhibition ‘... 12 Minutes from Karlsruhe. The Grötzingen Painters' Colony’ in 2014. 
Since the 2017/2018 winter semester, she has been teaching at the Karlsruhe University of Music. Until the 2019 summer semester, she was a lecturer in art history and media art in the bachelor's programme ‘CultureMediaTechnology’ (in cooperation with the Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences). From the 2022 summer semester, she was a lecturer in the field of music and culture; since the 2023 summer semester, she has been a substitute professor (partial substitution for Prof. Dr. Overbeck) at the Institute for Music Journalism | Radio – TV – Internet in the field of music and culture.
