Masaya Kamei from Prof Momo Kodama's piano class has won fifth prize at the Concours Reine Elisabeth. The Concours Reine Elisabeth (Queen Elisabeth Competition) in Brussels is one of the most important international music competitions. It is held in violin (since 1937), piano (since 1938), voice (since 1988) and cello (since 2017) - in one of these four categories each year. This year's competition was the 21st in piano. Following a video pre-selection, 60 candidates were selected for the first round of the competition. Of these 60 participants, twelve made it to the final. The finalists had exactly one week to prepare for their final performance and rehearse the compulsory work for the final: ‘Music for the Heart’, which was composed especially for the final of the Queen Elisabeth Competition by Belgian composer and avant-garde jazz pianist Kris Defoort. In addition, each finalist chose a concerto from the general piano repertoire to perform with the Brussels Philharmonic under conductor Kazushi Ono. Masaya Kamei had chosen for his concert on 31 May at the Palais des Beaux-Arts the Piano Concerto No. 5 in F major, ‘L'Égyptien’, by Camille Saint-Saëns .
