Heinz Kunle Competition ‘New Concert Formats’ organised by the Friends of the University of Music decided

The competition asked for a concert format lasting around 60 minutes that addresses and realises the theme of ‘upheavals and new beginnings’ in a coherent, coherent and diverse way. Possible thematic focuses were the Baden Revolution of 1848/49 and the fall of the German-German Wall in 1989. In addition to music, elements of other artistic disciplines could also be included. After a preliminary judging of the submitted concepts, five programmes were presented to the audience and the six-member jury in the public competition. Three prizes were awarded. The third prize, worth 500 euros, was awarded to Christian Rupp, who had organised a concert with audience participation entitled ‘Between Revolution and Art’ with 10 participants. Gerda Iguchi and Nico Merk received the second prize (750 euros) for breaking away from the usual concert format with ‘Wesendonck.Synthetisch’, which takes visitors on a musical, visual and sonic journey.

Carola Herz (saxophone) and Lena Kirchner (dance) were awarded the first prize of 3000 euros for ‘Demokratie - Umbrüche und Aufbrüche’. In this project, democracy is personalised by the dancer, accompanied by the musical and acoustic contributions of contemporary history. In this way, democracy can be experienced directly through the changing historical political moods and situations portrayed: you identify with it, grow and rejoice with it, doubt, hope and suffer with it. Her life is not a completed process, but continues with the many questions of the present. This is also how the play ends. And leaves us concerned about democracy. So it is only logical that the artists invite us to a discussion after the performance. Jury chairman Claus Temps praised the ‘incredible concept’ and the ‘very coherent, cohesive presentation’. The jury was downright ‘flashed’. This programme will be performed at the prizewinners' concert on Monday 26 May. It will take place at the MUT (Multimedia, Concert and Theatre Complex) of the Karlsruhe University of Music in MUTprobe1, starting at 7.30 pm.

The jury, chaired by Claus Temps, Chairman of the Circle of Friends, consisted of Prof Cornelia Wild, Prof Andrea Raabe, Dr Kerstin Unseld (SWR), Monika Rihm and student representative Christophe Weis.
