This year, students from all piano classes (including piano chamber music and song classes) were eligible to participate in the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) competition for foreign students at the Karlsruhe University of Music. There were twelve applicants. The prize is endowed with 1,000 euros and cannot be shared. The requirement was a 20-minute programme that also had to include a work from the 20th or 21st century from the applicant's home country. The jury selected Ukrainian pianist Ihor Panchenko (class of Prof. Momo Kodama), who played a sonata by Sergei Bortkiewicz in the competition. He will perform at the Erasmus concert on 25 November in the Genuit Hall. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free.
The concert will also feature performances by Erasmus students, who will present works for voice, bassoon, trumpet, trombone and piano, mainly by composers from their home countries: Spain, Slovenia, Poland, Portugal and Brazil.
