Wontae Kim studied at Sejong University from 2007 to 2014 (Bachelor's degree), at the Hochschule für Musik Würzburg from 2014 to 2018 (Master's degree with Nimrod Guez), and at the Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe since 2018 (soloist exam, class of Prof. Johannes Lüthy). He has already gained extensive orchestral experience: Wontae Kim participated in the LindenBaum Music Festival (conducted by Charles Dutoit), was an intern in SWR Sinfonieorchester Baden-Baden and Freiburg, played as a substitute in Philharmonie Baden Baden (as principal violist) in 2016, in Philharmonisches Orchester Freiburg and in other orchestras. In the 2018/2019 season he had a temporary contract at the Badische Staatskapelle Karlsruhe. During his studies, he has participated in numerous festivals and master classes, including a string quartet course with Ulf Klausenitzer in 2018, the Summer Music in the Upper Nagold Valley course in 2019 (with Walter Kuessner), and the Rencontres internationales de l 'Alto in Strasbourg in 2020 (with David Gaillard) and a course by Jean Sulem (Riemschneider Master Class) as part of the Karlsruhe Master Classes. Wontae Kim received a scholarship from the "Freunde der Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe" in 2019 and a scholarship as part of the student sponsorships at the Karlsruhe University of Music in 2020.
