An interview with Tatjana Vassiljeva-Monnier: Sound, teaching and artistic passion
What makes a cello sound truly special? How does one support young musicians on their individual journeys? And how can one balance an international orchestral career with work as a professor?
Tatjana Vassiljeva-Monnier, Professor of Cello at the Karlsruhe University of Music and Principal Cellist of the Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam, offers personal insights into her artistic work and teaching in this interview. She explains how she works with her students, fosters their musical development and supports them in finding their own artistic expression.
In doing so, we learn what she particularly values about her work at the Karlsruhe University of Music, what experiences she brings from her international career, and what drives her – both as a musician and as a teacher.
Prof. Dr Nanna Schmidt supervised the students on the Music Journalism for Radio and Multimedia course (Kim Götz, Jule Bär, Elias Bayha, Can-Bastian Paul) during the preparation and filming stages as part of the ‘Interview Film’ seminar.
