After 37 years, Prof. Reinhold Friedrich is giving his farewell concert, performing contemporary music alongside current and former students from his trumpet class. The programme features works by composers who studied at the University of Music (such as Jörg Mainka, Vito Žuraj, Kathrin A. Denner and Veronika Reutz Drobnić) or first studied there and later went on to teach there (such as Wolfgang Rihm). The HfM Karlsruhe is represented on several occasions in the ‘Wahnfried Tetralogy’, which is being performed exclusively to mark the 150th anniversary of the Bayreuth Festival and comprises a total of four concerts in the hall of Richard Wagner’s Villa Wahnfried. The four-part film ‘Wagner: The Good, the Bad, the Ego’ is now available to watch on the ARD media library. It was produced by Prof. Michael Wende. The documentary filmmaker, author and motion designer is a professor of applied multimedia moving-image projects at the Institute of Music Journalism (IMJ).The film is based, amongst other things, on material created by students at the Karlsruhe University of Music (Music Journalism course) as part of RIWA 26. Shuyu Meng, a Bachelor’s student in Prof. Lauma Skride’s piano class, won first prize – worth 200 euros – in the solo piano category at the FIPMA Málaga International Piano Festival.Shuyu Meng was born in China. She began playing the piano at the age of five and, from the age of ten, took lessons with Professor Hong Fu. From 2020 to 2025, she studied at the China Conservatoire’s Secondary School of Music. As part of the RIWA project, the book „Bayreuth as Theatre: Towards a History of the Festival“ by Prof. Dr. phil. habil. Stephan Mösch has been published by Bärenreiter/Metzler. Stephan Mösch teaches aesthetics, history and artistic practice in musical theatre at the IMT (Institute for Musical Theatre).
