On Sunday, 11 October 2026, at the Konzerthaus Berlin as part of the OPUS-KLASSIK Gala, the Innovation Award for Sustainability was presented to the composer and conductor Gregor A. Mayrhofer for the recording of his ‘Recycling Concerto’. Prof. Dr Nanna Schmidt played a key role in this multimedia project: She was responsible for the video production in her capacity as editor and director.

A concert about rubbish and made from rubbish: Mayrhofer’s Concerto for Percussion and Orchestra brings an extraordinary array of instruments to life. The work was recorded in March 2025 at the SWR Funkstudio Berg in Stuttgart, featuring percussionist Vivi Vassileva as soloist and the SWR Symphony Orchestra conducted by the composer. As part of the multimedia project, an SWR video production was created, which is available on the ARD Mediathek and on YouTube, as well as a recording released by the label decurio as a special edition on four vinyl records made from recycled marine plastic. Each record is a unique, handcrafted piece.
