Two alumnae of the Institute for Music Journalism have been appointed to an expert committee of the German Music Council

Juliane Sauter and Iris Freiberger, both alumnae of the Institute for Music Journalism at the HfM Karlsruhe, have been appointed to the newly established ‘Public Service Broadcasting Working Group’. This expert panel of the German Music Council, comprising eleven members, will use its expertise to monitor current developments in public service broadcasting as a ‘critical friend’ and will draw up position papers on the German Music Council’s work in the fields of music and media policy by the end of 2027.

Juliane Sauter is a documentary and music director, as well as a freelance journalist specialising in classical music and artistic forms of expression. Her debut film, *Primadonna or Nothing*, was released in cinemas in 2025, and her film *Und es war Sommer* is due to follow in the summer of 2026. Alongside her work in cinema, she produces music features for Südwestrundfunk and directs concert productions.

Having completed her BA in Music Journalism for Broadcasting and Multimedia at the HfM Karlsruhe, Iris Freiberger is currently deepening her understanding of cultural mediation and artistic practice whilst studying for a Master’s degree in Arts and Cultural Management at King’s College London. Her work explores how music and culture can foster communication, creativity, intercultural understanding and empathy. She also works as a freelance writer for SWR Kultur.
