France at the time of the French Revolution: Robespierre's Reign of Terror descends upon the supposed safety of the Carmelite convent in Compiègne, forcing the 16 nuns and novices to make a fateful decision in the face of the guillotine. 16 women's fates, 16 martyrs. Among them is Katharina Bierweiler, a sixth-semester student of opera singing (class of Prof. Christiane Libor and Prof. Stephan Klemm). In the current production of Francis Poulenc's opera Dialogues des Carmélites at the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe, she sings the role of Soeur Mathilde. The production (ML: J. Willig, R: A. Schwalbach) premiered on 24 January 2026 as a Karlsruhe premiere and will run at the Großes Haus until 7 May 2026.
