Jeremias Burk, a Master’s student in Prof. Tatjana Vassiljewa-Monnier’s cello class, will become a permanent member of the Ulm Philharmonic Orchestra from September 2026.
Jeremias Burk was born in Bad Tölz in 1999 and received his first music lessons on the piano at the age of six. At the age of seven, he began playing the cello and was taught by Martina Trost-Gelse. Accepted into the programme for gifted pupils at the Pliezhausen Music School, Jeremias gained experience in regular concert performances from an early age, playing concerts in Trier, Cochem on the Moselle and Idar-Oberstein. His move to the Hölderlin Gymnasium in Nürtingen led to the expansion of his musical skills into the field of jazz. In addition to the school orchestra, he played for two years as a pianist in the school’s own big band and took part in productions in collaboration with the SWR Big Band. In 2017, Jeremias Burk completed his Abitur with music as his advanced subject and, from the 2017/18 winter semester, began his studies in school music at the Karlsruhe University of Music, majoring in cello under Bernhard Lörcher and minoring in piano under Ulrike Meyer. Since the summer term of 2018, he has also been principal cellist in the school music orchestra at the Karlsruhe University of Music and regularly takes part in opera productions directed by Alois Seidlmeier or staged by the Junges Kollektiv MusikTheater. He has also performed in productions by the university orchestra. Since spring 2022, Jeremias Burk has also been studying the cello for his Bachelor’s degree under Prof. Martin Ostertag and Prof. Tatjana Vassiljeva at the Karlsruhe University of Music. Solo performances have taken him to venues including the Kurhaus in Baden-Baden and the Liederhalle in Stuttgart. For the 2025/2026 season, Jeremias was an intern with the Osnabrück Symphony Orchestra. From the 2026/2027 season onwards, he will be a permanent member of the Ulm Philharmonic Orchestra.
