Ih-Ruhn Katharina Jung, a PreCollege student in Prof. Sontraud Speidel’s piano class, has won first prize in the junior category at the Prof. Dichler Competition.
Ih-Ruhn Katharina Jung, born in Heidelberg in 2013, began playing the piano at the age of three. She has been taught by Prof. Sontraud Speidel since 2021 and has been studying in her class at the PreCollege of the Karlsruhe University of Music since 2024. She made her solo debut in 2023 with the Waldstadt Chamber Orchestra; since then, she has performed on several occasions as a soloist with the Waldstadt Chamber Orchestra and the Karlsruhe Chamber Orchestra. She has won prizes at numerous national and international piano competitions and has been awarded first prizes and special honours on several occasions. At the PCO Piano Competition Online, she received the ‘Absolute Winner’ and ‘Romantic – Absolute Winner’ awards.
Since 2024, she has been a scholarship holder of the PIANO-PODIUM for three consecutive years, enabling her to take part in musical excursions to Köthen, Salzburg and Weimar. In addition to the piano, she also plays the cello and has received several awards as a cellist. She performs in the piano duo ‘Blumenduo’ alongside Luise Bold; in 2025, the duo won two first prizes at national and international competitions. Since 2023, Ih-Ruhn Katharina Jung has regularly taken part in projects led by Dr Joachim Draheim and has given concerts in Vienna, Salzburg, Bayreuth, Köthen, Karlsruhe and Baden-Baden, amongst other places.
