Khongor Buyandalai, a PreCollege student in Prof. Sontraud Speidel’s class, has won the ‘Grand Prize’ in the ‘Professional Category’ of the "Brahms International Music Global Online Competition", Mongolia section.
Khongor Buyandalai was born in 2014 in Karlsruhe, Germany, began playing the piano at the age of five, and has been a student of Professor Sontraud Speidel since 2023. At just ten years old, he became a junior student at the Karlsruhe University of Music and has already achieved numerous national and international successes.
These include multiple first prizes with top scores in the “Jugend musiziert” competition, the Grand Prize at the GICMC Competition in 2024 and 2025, as well as first prizes at the Grotrian-Steinweg Competition, the German Tonkünstler Competition in Baden-Württemberg, and in 2023 at the Andreas-Kunle Competition. At the Anno-Schreier Piano Competition of Piano-Podium Karlsruhe, he received the highest level of support in 2025 and was additionally awarded a special prize for outstanding pianistic achievement. He also received the EUPLAYY Prize, which enabled him to participate in a masterclass in Munich.
He won second prizes at the Prof. Dichler Competition at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna — where the oldest participants were already 29 years old — as well as at the Carl Bechstein Competition and the Wolfgang Hofmann Competition for pre-students of the Karlsruhe University of Music. He was also a finalist in the Steinway Piano Competition.
Khongor Buyandalai has won first prizes in numerous online competitions.
He has performed as a soloist in renowned concert halls and at major events, including the Laeiszhalle Hamburg, the Staatstheater Braunschweig, Schloss Britz, the Ehrbar Hall in Vienna, and venues in Salzburg.
He performed all movements of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 12, as well as the first movement of Ludwig van Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 2 with the German-Armenian Orchestra and the Waldstadt Orchestra.
Khongor Buyandalai has already given several recital concerts and performed his first solo recital at the age of ten at the Steinway & Sons House in Stuttgart. He received the Gerold-Joachim Förderpreis and the Wolfgang Hofmann Foundation Prize and is a scholarship holder of the Hans Hachmann Foundation of the Friends of the Karlsruhe University of Music e.V.
