The first prize went to JiHun Hong.

The Dr Hermann Büttner Piano Competition 2024 has been decided. The first round was dedicated exclusively to the repertoire for solo piano, the second to the interpretation of the Piano Quintet in F minor op. 34 by Johannes Brahms. 

Matteo Gobbini received a sponsorship award. He is studying piano chamber music with Andrej Jussow in the third semester of the soloist examination programme. The second prize went to Tomonori Murakami, who is studying with Prof Momo Kodama in the second semester of the Master's programme. JiHun Hong (photo) won first prize. She is studying on the soloist examination programme with Prof. Roberto Domingos.

The prizewinners' concert on 14 June will feature works by Sergei W. Rachmaninov and Nikolai G. Kapustin (Matteo Gobbini), Enrique Granados (Tomonori Murakami) and, of course, Brahms' Piano Quintet in F minor, played by JiHun Hong, Adrian Kratzert (1st violin), Leo Esselson (2nd violin), Henriette Brunner (viola) and Konstantin Pointner (cello).
