Double honour for Prof. Dr Stephan Mösch

Prof. Dr. Stephan Mösch is to be awarded the 2026 Culture Prize by the Upper Franconia Foundation. In its statement, the Foundation’s Board cited Mösch’s “outstanding artistic and scholarly work relating to Richard Wagner and the Bayreuth Festival, as well as his pioneering contributions to the research, dissemination and dynamic development of Bayreuth’s heritage”. The prize is worth 20,000 euros.

Stephan Mösch’s book "Bayreuth as Theatre. Towards a History of the Festival" (published by Bärenreiter/Metzler), which was written as part of the RIWA 26 project, was voted ‘Book of the Year’ in the annual poll conducted by the magazine ‘Opernwelt’. A review in the ‘Neue Zürcher Zeitung’ described it as an ‘epoch-making study’.
