Daniela Kercks’ production on arte: Schumann’s "Paradise and the Peri"

Daniela Kerck, Head of Staging at the Institute for Music Theatre, is an internationally acclaimed director. Her production of Schumann’s secular oratorio "Paradise and the Peri", performed at the Konzerthaus La Seine Musicale in Paris was recorded in its entirety by arte and can now be viewed on the arte media library.

The story in brief: As the daughter of a fallen angel and a mortal, Peri – the Persian word for ‘fairy’ or ‘elf’ – is forced to wander between heaven and earth. To gain entry to paradise, she embarks on a long journey all the way to the Orient. Laurence Equilbey conducts Robert Schumann’s romantic oratorio in Paris.
