Competition of the Kulturfonds Baden decided

Students of the Karlsruhe University of Music were invited to the competition for the Rainer Koch Memorial Prize on November 2. They had to perform one or more works by Wolfgang Rihm in a solo or chamber music setting.

Among the eight applications, the jury decided on three prize winners. The duo Jina Kim (violin) and Hyunhee Hwang (piano) each received a second prize (1,500 €) for their interpretation of "Hekton" and the Trio Atria with Nina Muñoz Ramos (piano), Lucía Fernández (violin) and Álvaro Berlanga (cello), who convinced the jury with "Fremde Szene III". The first prize (€2,000) was awarded to soprano Maine Takeda and pianist Uram Kim, who interpreted two songs from "Das Rot".

The jury, chaired by Professor Dr. h. c. Wolfgang Rihm, included Professor Sontraud Speidel, Professor Markus Hechtle and Mathias Tritsch, the President of the Kulturfonds Baden e. V.. Wolfgang Rihm said he was "very moved by the quality of everyone who tackled the score."

The prize winners' concert will take place on Friday, November 12, 2021, 7:30 p.m. in Velte-Saal.
