about Nähe fern 3 by Wolfgang Rihm
As in the other Nähe fern pieces, Rihm composed his own music, in which he consciously which he consciously approaches the distant world of Johannes Brahms. The composition remains in a constant state of flux: fast, energetic sections alternate with slow, lyrical passages. After solemn, majestic climaxes, the melodies sound as if they come from memory: they are tender and full of longing, as if evoking a lost world. (Universal Edition)
