The cello suites are virtually obligatory in the repertoire of all important soloists. Franziska Griese plays the fifth and sixth suites. A special feature of Suite No. 5 is that the (top) A-string of the instrument has to be tuned down a whole tone. This makes the tone colour darker and only certain chords can be played.
