Masterclass Oboe

Tobias Vogelmann was born in Heilbronn. Following initial piano lessons he began studying the oboe with Hans-Martin Sauter and later with Zoltán Magyárosy at the Young People’s Music School in Schwäbisch Hall.

After graduating from high school, he studied with Prof. Thomas Indermühle at the Karlsruhe University of Music. At the same time, he took master classes with Ingo Goritzki and Günther Passin and he received special inspiration from Maurice Bourgue and Jacques Tys. In Munich, he continued his studies with François Leleux at the Richard Strauss Conservatory.

After early successes at the “Jugend musiziert” competition, he won first prize at the “Pacem in Terris” International Music Competition in Bayreuth in 1998. In 1999, he received a scholarship from the “Villa Musica” Foundation in Mainz and passed the audition for the Munich Orchestra Academy, the predecessor institution of the BRSO Academy, in the same year.

Tobias Vogelmann has been a permanent member of the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks since September 2000, initially as second oboist and, since 2017, as its principal English horn player. As a soloist, he has performed with the BRSO, the Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, the Munich Chamber Orchestra, the Bach-Collegium München, and the Württemberg Chamber Orchestra Heilbronn under conductors such as Christoph von Dohnányi and Manfred Honeck.

Tobias Vogelmann teaches English horn at the University of Music and Theater in Munich and at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg. In the field of historically informed performances, Tobias Vogelmann is primarily involved as a baroque oboist in the original sound ensemble “Accademia Giocosa,” which consists largely of colleagues from the BRSO, but also in the Hofkapelle München and “Giardino Armonico.”
