About this event

In the Shadow of the Light
An enchanting quest for identity, humanity and love

When the university falls silent and only the wind sweeps softly through the empty corridors, Mozart’s The Magic Flute comes to life once more.

In this university production, the search for identity becomes the true drama. Tamino no longer wanders merely through nocturnal forests, but through the labyrinths of his own self. Pamina struggles not only with her mother and Sarastro, but with the question of who she is allowed to be – between worlds, between genders, between duty, love and longing. Even Papageno suddenly realises that his longing, too, is more than merely the search for a counterpart: It is the answer to the big question of one’s place in this confusing world.

With enchanting lightness and profound poetic power, the story unfolds in the hours of the night. Holographic projections bring figures of light and shadow to life, make books glow and blur the boundaries between reality and dreams. The library’s time-honoured volumes become silent witnesses to a timeless play – and suddenly Mozart’s music feels so close, so alive, as if it had only just been composed in these very rooms.
