Yao-Te Hsieh was born in 1993 in Kaohsiung (Taiwan). At the age of sixteen he received his first drum lessons from Cheung Li-Feng. From 2011 on he studied in the Bachelor's program at the National Kaohsiung Normal University with Chen Chun-Ting and Chang Yu-Ying. In 2017 he won 1st prize at the Universal Marimba Competition in Belgium, in 2018 he won 2nd prize and the Ady Mootz Special Prize at the International Percussion Competition in Luxembourg with his partner Ling Lu as "Te | Ling Percussion Duo" and 1st prize at the Percussive Arts Web Contest in Italy. In 2019 he was semi-finalist of the International Music Competition in Geneva (Concours de Genève). In 2019 he won 1st prize at the competition of the Kulturfonds Baden e. V. in Karlsruhe.
Since 2018 his partnership with the English company Southern Percussion exists. He has been invited to concerts in Italy and Taiwan, including the Taiwan International Percussion Convention and many master classes. He completed his master studies with Prof. Isao Nakamura, Jochen Brenner, Thomas Höfe and Hiromi Shigeno at the Karlsruhe University of Music in 2018. He is currently studying for the soloist exam.
