This concert offers a retrospective view of past eras from the 20th and 21st centuries. Isabel Mundry looks furthest back, having arranged works by the early Renaissance Franco-Flemish composer Guillaume Dufay. Anton Webern orchestrated works by Johann Sebastian Bach, and Johannes Schöllhorn arranged them for chamber ensemble. Luciano Berio wishes his arrangement of Franz Schubert’s presumably final symphonic sketches to be understood as a kind of ‘modern fresco restoration’.
