Matthias Rexroth completed his vocal studies in 1998 at the University of Music Karlsruhe, where he had studied with Klaus Dieter Kern, Maria Venuti and Donald Litaker. He continued his studies at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis with Richard Levitt and Anthony Rooley and with Eytan Pessen in Stuttgart. Today he is one of the most sought-after countertenors with the rare specialty of the alto. As a concert singer, he worked closely with Nikolaus Harnoncourt. Highlights of his career have been his debut with the Vienna Philharmonic under Riccardo Muti, concerts with the Petersburg Philharmonic, the Orchestra of Radiotelevision Española, the Frankfurt Museum Orchestra as well as performances with the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome and the Orchestra del Teatro di San Carlo in Naples. At the Rossini Festival Bad Wildbad he sang the world premiere of the Hölderlin/Sophocles Fragments Kolonos by Wolfgang Rihm, which were composed for him. As a guest lecturer he passes on his experience, knowledge and singing technique in master classes at home and abroad.
