Sonata for piano and violin G major op. 96
Wei-Chung Chen, violin - Nargiza Alimova, piano

The two G major sonatas for piano and violin are very different in character: The Sonata op. 30 No. 3 seems dance-like and playfully light, whereas the Sonata op. 96, composed about ten years later, is more poetic, sometimes downright devotional. In the Sonata in G minor, Op. 5 No. 2, composed in 1796, the piano and violoncello are treated as equals. Beethoven dispensed with the usual slow middle movement, but prefaced the Allegro molto with an Adagio introduction.
