Friends of the University of Music Karlsruhe joins the Karlsruhe University of Music, the music world, his family and friends in mourning the loss of the composer and man Wolfgang Rihm. He was deeply connected to Karlsruhe and the Karlsruhe University of Music. He was born in Karlsruhe in 1952, grew up here and received his first musical impulses here at an early age. It was here at the university that he found his most important teacher, Eugen Werner Velte. He succeeded him as professor of composition in 1985. For almost 40 years, he accompanied his students at the Karlsruhe University of Music and encouraged them to do what he himself did: to be autonomous, to have inner freedom and independence, committed solely to art, music and humanity. The Friends of the University of Music, whose second chairwoman is the deceased's sister, Monika Rihm, commemorates the teacher, artist and mediator, commemorates the man and philanthropist, commemorates the personality who helped shape the university for decades with sadness, deepest respect, gratitude and joy for the personal and musical encounters.
