mourns the loss of

Professor Werner Stiefel
*26.8.1940   † 18.11.2024

In addition to his full-time position as chief conductor of the Baden-Baden Philharmonic Orchestra, Werner Stiefel taught orchestral conducting at the Karlsruhe University of Music for almost three decades from 1989 onwards. Numerous students benefited from his extraordinary experience and his knowledge of the relationship between conducting craft and artistic esprit. Between 1993 and 1996, he conducted around 45 performances of opera productions at the Institute for Music Theater at the Karlsruhe University of Music.

In November 2002, the university senate decided to award Werner Stiefel the title of professor as a token of his many years of service. He ended his teaching career at the end of the 2018 summer semester. Werner Stiefel died in Baden-Baden on November 18, 2024. The Karlsruhe University of Music will cherish the memory of his great commitment and excellent work.
