As part of the R!SK Festival at the Karlsruhe University of Music, the Karlsruhe Cultural Scholarship 2024 was awarded to musician and computer artist Jia Liu on 7 December. Jia Liu works at the interface of traditional music and modern technologies. Her compositions combine ma-thematics, algorithmic music and live coding. She has received international recognition for her in-novative performances and projects that explore the role of artificial intelligence in art. She already made a name for herself during her studies in music informatics with Prof Christoph Seibert at the Karlsruhe University of Music and her previous studies at the Conservatory of Music in Shanghai.
The Karlsruhe Cultural Scholarship is awarded every two years to outstanding graduates of the ar-tistic universities of the city of Karlsruhe. It is endowed with 20,000 euros and supports young ta-lents in their transition to professional life. "With this scholarship, we are not only honouring Jia Liu's achievements to date, but also offering her a framework to focus on her artistic future," em-phasised Susanne Ablaß, Head of the Cultural Office of the City of Karlsruhe, in her speech.
