Naur glainre iki, vobe gollu vá - the rhythms form words, the words form sentences and the sentences tell a story. Fantasy language meets percussion sounds. In "speaking drums", a drummer teaches her instruments to speak until the drums themselves begin to talk. A language that no one understands, but in which everyone chats along - always in rhythm. A concert for the whole family!
Drumming while speaking is nothing new, if you think of Indian music or jazz. In "speaking drums", Peter Eötvös turns this phenomenon on its head: the soloist begins by speaking meaningless texts in which only the rhythm and the sound of the language are important. The expressive power of this fantasy language lies in the rhythm of the text, which she initially transfers to her instruments - comparable to the childlike joy of discovery when saying and repeating the same word in different melodies. Nonsense poems by Sandor Weöres serve as the basis.
