in 1951, Benjamin Britten composed his "Six Metamorphoses after Ovid", inspired by a theme that has resonated for thousands of years. More than 2000 years earlier, Ovid created his "Metamorphoses" (8 AD) - a fluid cosmos full of mythical figures that transform into gods, animals, plants or stars. These transformations became the epic expression of a principle that characterises human existence like no other - nothing remains as it is. Man and the world are linked in a permanent process of becoming, an oscillation between forms, states and identities. "metamorphosis" draws attention to the beauty of transition - to those fleeting moments in which the unknown takes shape and the familiar reinvents itself.
ZeitGenuss - the festival for music of our time was founded in 2013 by the city and the Karlsruhe University of Music.
