Arvo Pärt
„Passio Domini Nostri" (St. John Passion)

Written in 1982, the Passion is a minimalist masterpiece in which Pärt draws on medieval traditions. The work has an almost contemplative gesture. The narrator, the Evangelist, is cast with a quartet of soloists; the only instrumental support is an organ.

Max Reger
„O Haupt voll Blut und Wunden“ ( "O head full of blood and wounds")

Reger's cantata for Good Friday on the well-known Passion Song by Paul Gerhardt from 1656, which in turn is based on a melody by Hans Leo Hassler from 1601, was composed in 1904 and belongs to a group of 4 other choral cantatas. These choral cantatas are Reger's independent and most extensive contribution to this core genre of Protestant church music.
