The Karlsruhe University of Music is a university of music, i.e. a school that can be attended after graduating from high school. It is located in Karlsruhe, Germany. The university is located in the east of the city and is housed in Gottesaue Palace and the surrounding buildings, e.g. in a building with a concert hall.
Study programmes
The university offers various degree programmes:
- Bachelor of Music (B.Mus.): Undergraduate degree programme in various instruments, singing, composition and music education
- Master of Music (M.Mus.): Advanced studies in the above-mentioned areas
- Bachelor of Arts (B.A.): Study programmes such as musicology and music informatics, music journalism
- Master of Arts (M.A.): Further studies in musicology, music informatics and music journalism
- Soloist exam (concert exam): Advanced studies after the Master's degree
- Teacher training in music: training for the teaching profession at grammar schools in the subject of music
The university has special institutes.
- Institute for Music Informatics and Musicology (IMWI): This is about music, technology and writing and thinking about music
- Institute for Music Theatre (IMT): This is about the performance of operas and the direction of music theatre or operas.
- State Centre for Music Journalism (IMJ) and Music Informatics (IMWI): Here you learn how to report on music, create radio and television programmes and produce them electronically.
- Institute for New Music (INN): This is all about composing and performing new, contemporary music
Application and admission
Anyone wishing to study at the Karlsruhe University of Music must first apply online on the homepage and must then pass an entrance examination in the subject they wish to study. There are always more applicants than there are places available. More detailed information can be found on the university's website.
