Call for entries SchuMU(T) Competition'25

The SchuMU(T) Competition takes up the special structure and design of the music teaching degree program and would like to encourage all students to apply with their own profile. The focus is on three aspects. Firstly, the course is characterized by its artistic diversity, which is reflected in the instrumental subjects as well as in singing, ensemble conducting, music theory and speech training. Secondly, the course is designed to bring together different perspectives from art, science and pedagogy. And finally, it is also important to be open to social and cultural developments and questions with regard to the future field of work and to consider these aspects.

The competition is made possible by the Freundeskreis der Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe e. V.

Registration Deadline 25.05.25
All students enrolled in the summer semester '25 in the Artistic Teachingdegree program at the Karlsruhe University of Music as well as all students who have already completed this degree program in Karlsruhe but are still studying the academic subject are eligible to participate

. Prize winners from previous years can enter again for this new competition. It is also possible to register in pairs or as an ensemble (three or four).

Competition content
Based on a given topic, the participants will create an approximately 30-minute, stylistically versatile, coherently conceived, artistically convincing presentation, which may certainly have an innovative character. Artistic, reflective, communicative and scientific elementscan be freely arranged together, whereby the use of digital media can also be considered. The choice of artistic forms of expression and possible scientific disciplines to be used
is up to the students, as is the choice of formations and staging (taking into account the spatial and technical conditions). The focus is on the individual, multifaceted exploration of a theme to create a coherent overall design. The competition explicitly encourages students to boldly make their own voices heard outside the beaten track
. In the subsequent discussion, the students have the opportunity to provide further insights into the program design and development and, if necessary, to answer questions from the commission.

The theme of the SchuMU(T) Competition 2025 is:
„…und im Nu ist Ewigkeit“ (...and in an instant is eternity) (Friedrich Rückert) - What does time do in music and
music in time?
