BIOGRAPHY
Growing up without a classical music background in a family of non-musicians, ending up as a classical composer came as somewhat of a surprise to me, initially. I had been composing a lot for my band since my early teens, however, even if it took till I was at the conservatory until I started writing scores. I owe the biggest credit to my mentor Klaas de Vries, who encouraged and supported my composing since day one. Without him, I would be nowhere today.

A joint project of the Karlsruhe University of Music, the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design and SWR
SWR's legendary Hans Rosbaud Studio in Baden-Baden, where countless productions and concerts have taken place since 1950, was closed for good at the end of October 2023. To bid an artistic farewell to this studio, composers and sound artists from the Hochschule für Musik and the Hochschule für Gestaltung Karlsruhe developed works related to it, which were recorded on some of the last days of production in the studio and will be performed in this concert.

Born and raised in Adelaide (Australia), Andrew Bain has held positions and soloed around the world, including Australasia, Europe, and the United States, where he settled as the Principal Horn of the Los Angeles Philharmonic in 2011.
