Wissenschaftsfestival EFFEKTE

As part of the EFFEKTE science festival, which this year takes place under the motto "Science Cosmos Karlsruhe", students and teachers from the Institute of Music Informatics and Musicology invite you to a journey through the cosmos of digital sounds. Using this metaphor, Iannis Xenakis described composing with the aid of computers:

"With the aid of electronic computers the composer becomes a sort of pilot: he presses the buttons, introduces coordinates, and supervises the controls of a cosmic vessel sailing in the space of sound, across sonic constellations and galaxies that he could formerly glimpse only as a distant dream." (Iannis Xenakis, Formalized Music)

The starting point is Xenakis' work Voyage Absolu Des Unari Vers Andromède, which describes a sound journey to the Andromeda galaxy. This is followed by works that were created in response to Xenakis' contributions to sound synthesis and explore new computer-generated sound worlds.
