The baritone Wolfgang Holzmair studied singing in Vienna with Hilde Rössel-Majdan and Lied with Erik Werba. As a lied singer he performs regularly in the major music centres of the world. He also works with leading orchestras, including the Israel Philharmonic and the Berlin Philharmonic. His opera roles include Papageno, Don Alfonso, Eisenstein, Wolfram, Faninal and many others. His numerous recordings in the fields of opera, concert and lieder from Haydn, Beethoven, Schubert, Brahms and Wolf to contemporary composers are highly praised. For years, the artist has also been committed to the dissemination of works, especially songs, by formerly persecuted composers, as evidenced by his Křenek, Mittler, Zeisl, Schreker and Theresienstadt CDs. Wolfgang Holzmair has been leading a lieder and oratorio class at the Mozarteum in Salzburg since 1998 and gives master classes in Europe and North America. He is Visiting Professor at the Royal College of Music in London.
